Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Ford Expedition is available in five trim levels for 2021: XL, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. The base XL trim level offers fog lights and 18-inch wheels. Upgrade to the Limited trim level for 20-inch wheels, power-deployable running boards, and a hands-free liftgate.
The King Ranch trim level adds King Ranch badging and emblems, plus 22-inch wheels, Stone Gray exterior trim, LED headlights and fog lights, and a panoramic glass roof. The final trim level is the Platinum, which has satin aluminum exterior trim.
Engine (Power)
Only one engine option is available with the 2021 Expedition. This engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that generates 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. However, this engine produces 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque in the Platinum trim level. A 10-speed automatic transmission links to this engine.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive is the basic setup for the 2021 Expedition, but all-wheel drive is available as an upgrade. If you select all-wheel drive, you receive a terrain-response function that maximizes traction based on the surface below. A two-speed setup with an electronic locking differential is also available.
The Expedition isn't made for off-road driving, but it can hold its own. The vehicle has 9.8 inches of ground clearance and can come with the FX4 Off-Road package, which adds skid plates, a limited-slip differential, and off-road-tuned shocks.
The 2021 Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds when properly equipped.
Interior
If you select the base trim level of the Ford Expedition, there are two rows of seating that can accommodate five people. If you pick any of the higher trim levels, the vehicle features a third row that can seat up to eight. However, the vehicle can only seat seven if you pick second-row captain's chairs over a second-row bench seat.
Cloth upholstery is standard, but synthetic and genuine leather are available as upgrades. Heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats are also available with higher trim levels. You can even enhance the 2021 Expedition with heated second-row seats, power-adjustable pedals, and a heated steering wheel.
An 8-inch touch screen comes standard with the Ford Expedition. This touch screen works alongside a six-speaker stereo system, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Car buyers interested in additional infotainment technologies can upgrade the SUV with wireless device charging, an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, two more USB ports, a rear-seat entertainment system with two screens, satellite radio, HD radio, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system.
Safety Features
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2021 Expedition with a five-star overall crash-test rating. The SUV has several standard safety technologies such as lane-keep assist, rear-cross traffic alert, a rearview camera, and automatic high-beam headlights.
