2021 Ford Explorer
When it comes to full-size SUVs, perhaps none is more iconic than the Ford Explorer. Drivers love the Explorer for its power, spaciousness, and luxurious amenities. The 2021 lineup is no exception. When you take the wheel of the 2021 Ford Explorer, you'll experience legendary performance with a few exciting new features along the way.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
With eight extraordinary trim levels to choose from, there's an Explorer for everyone. The Base trim combines elegant lines with substantial SUV proportions for a look that is graceful yet athletic. This distinctive design gets a boost from features like 18-inch five-spoke silver-painted wheels, black bodyside cladding, and an aggressive lip spoiler. The XLT announces its arrival with an intricately designed chrome bar-style grille. New to the Explorer family is the ST-Line, which features a black grille, fog lamps, and 20-inch machined aluminum wheels. With the Limited, you can take advantage of roof rails, perimeter lights, and a power liftgate. The Timberline commands attention with its 18-inch gloss-black wheels, sleek black accents, and unique Timberline etching. Body-colored accents give the ST a sporty and streamlined profile. On the King Ranch, you'll find dazzling chrome accents that pair nicely with 10-spoke aluminum wheels featuring eye-catching King Ranch wheel caps. Finally, there's the Platinum which always stands out with its beautifully sculpted metal-look accents.
Engine (Power)
When it comes to delivering power, the 2022 Explorer doesn't disappoint. The standard engine is an intercooled turbo four-cylinder that puts out 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you opt for the ST, you'll enjoy a twin-turbo premium V-6 capable of producing 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. With that much power, the Explorer can tow 5,000 pounds, perfect for when you want to take the boat out to the lake. The robust V-6 is also available in the King Ranch and Platinum models.
Performance
No matter where you're headed, you can expect superior performance from your Explorer. For the first time ever, the ST model lets drivers choose between a nimble, road-ready front-wheel drive and a rugged all-wheel-drive system. All-wheel drive is also an option with the other trims in the Explorer lineup. All models feature a 10-speed automatic transmission that provides quick yet smooth acceleration regardless of driving conditions.
Interior
The Explorer's interior is versatile enough for all of your adventures. You can stick with the standard second-row bench seats or swap them out for stylish captain's chairs. When the rear seats aren't in use, fold them flat to get up to 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Upper trim levels add all sorts of amenities, such as a 10.1-inch touch screen, a 14-speaker sound system, and multi-contour seats.
Safety Features
On top of its impressive performance and fun features, the Explorer gives you the latest in safety technology. A collision mitigation system warns you when a collision is imminent and applies the brakes when necessary. When a vehicle enters the Explorer's blind spots, you'll receive an alert from the blind spot information system. You can also take advantage of a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, and automated parking sensors.
