2022 Ford Explorer
If you're looking for a vehicle that's a good balance between midsize and full-size SUVs, the 2022 Ford Explorer is a perfect choice. The Explorer should be high on your list with ample engine options, robust towing capabilities, and a spacious cargo area. Here's what people love about the 2022 Ford Explorer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
Eight trim levels are available for the 2022 Ford Explorer: base, XLT, Limited, ST-Line, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. LED headlights are standard for all trims, while roof rails are added to the XLT. The ST-Line upgrades to tinted headlights and taillights, a black grille, and 20-inch wheels. The Timberline is built for the off-road with underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, front tow hooks, and modified grille and bumpers. Opting for the Platinum gets you adaptive headlights and 21-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
The 2022 Ford Explorer has three available engine choices depending on the trim. The base engine is the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, producing up to 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The Limited and Platinum trims have an optional V-6 hybrid that makes up to 318 horsepower combined. Finally, the ST has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that puts out up to 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. All engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available for all trims. Choosing the Timberline gives you the all-wheel-drive standard while offering a trailer tow package with specialized suspension for increased ride height and a limited-slip differential. The sportier ST includes paddle shifters and sport suspension. Opting for the available hybrid engine option will optimize fuel efficiency, getting an estimated 27 mpg combined.
