For 2025, Ford has given the Expedition a refresh, and they didn’t just guess what needed improving. The company spent over 1,100 hours talking to families, roadtrippers, and everyday drivers to find out what really matters. The result? A sharper design, a more refined interior, and smarter tech, all aimed at making life easier. Of course, not every family has the same needs, which is why the 2025 Ford Expedition comes in a range of trims.
1. Active
Base models typically get the biggest updates in a refresh, and that’s exactly the case with the Active trim. One of the standout features is the new Split Gate, which combines the best of an SUV liftgate and a truck tailgate. The top part opens up like an SUV liftgate, while the bottom part folds down like a truck’s tailgate. Plus, the old 8-inch digital gauge cluster has tripled in size, now stretching across a full 24 inches.
There are plenty of other changes, but the heart of the Expedition remains intact. It still packs a powerful engine, offers enough room for up to eight people, and the trunk space is as practical as ever.
2. Tremor
The Tremor can handle your daily commutes and school runs, but it’s also ready to take on much more. It is the most off-road-ready Expedition, equipped with electronic lockers, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, premium shocks, sway bars, and intelligent 4WD with a traction management system. Ford also threw in a high-output version of the 3.5-liter V6, ensuring you’ve got the power to tackle rocky trails, deep mud, and everything in between.
3. King Ranch
The King Ranch brings serious style to the table with Del Rio and Mesa Del Rio leather, paired with Kingsville stitching that gives the console a one-of-a-kind vibe. There are also real wood accents throughout, ventilation for those hot days, a head-up display, a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen system, power-deployable running boards, and a panoramic roof that stretches over the first and second rows. And speaking of the second row, it’s got Captain’s chairs that are heated for added comfort.
4. Platinum
A fully optioned Platinum does not stray too far from the King Ranch. You’ll still get high-end materials, advanced tech, and creature comforts; it’s just presented in a more refined, city-friendly package. For instance, it has sleek metallic, high gloss finishes instead of wood accents.
The 2025 Expedition’s simplified lineup makes choosing the right trim easier than ever. But why read about them when you can feel the difference? Schedule your test drive at Bob Maxey Ford of Howell in Howell, MI. You’ll know which one suits you as soon as you get behind the wheel.
