1. Active

The base engine for the Explorer provides 300 horses and a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds with the right equipment. It comes with a 10-speed automatic and standard rear-wheel or optional four-wheel drive. The powertrain comes with six selectable drive modes along with hill descent control for 4WD models. The Active seats up to seven with a second-row bench seat, with premium standard features like heated power-adjustable front seats and three-zone automatic climate control.

The Explorer gives you the latest tech across the lineup, including a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with a 12.3-inch driver information screen. You’ll have a Wi-Fi hotspot, Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a six-speaker stereo with satellite radio. The Active also incorporates driver assistance tech such as rear parking sensors, vehicle exit warning, driver attention monitoring, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, and more.

2. ST-Line

This model upgrades the standard cloth upholstery with synthetic leather trim and adds a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Enjoy amenities like a surround-view camera system, remote start, and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with HD radio.

The Explorer ST-Line also adds driver assistance tech such as front parking sensors, evasive steering assist, reverse automatic emergency braking, and intersection assist. The exterior incorporates LED signature lighting and LED fog lights, while the interior features ebony door trim with red contrast stitching. This model has 20-inch wheels in place of the standard 18-inch wheels.

3. ST

The Explorer ST comes with an exclusive 400-hp turbo-six, performance brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, quad chrome exhaust tips, and 21-inch alloy wheels. The cabin incorporates luxuries like massaging and ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and a combination of synthetic leather and suede upholstery.

The Explorer ST also gives you the convenience of a power-folding third row. It shows off a unique black mesh-insert grille, logo door sill scuff plates, and blacked-out LED headlight and taillight elements.

4. Platinum

Step up to the Explorer Platinum for the base engine with the features of the ST. This top-tier trim also includes ambient interior lighting, a moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, adaptive headlights, and genuine leather and synthetic suede upholstery.
